An Introduction to Acronymity

Home » Introduction

What's PHP?

Well I was always taught it stood for PHP Hypertext Pre-processor, and because the first P stands for PHP it's a funny recurring loop, but there are various thoughts on this. Either way, all you need to know is that it's a programming language for making websites do fun (and useful) things.

What's CSS?

CSS stands for Cascading StyleSheets. These babies allow you to create styles for your site, stick them in one file and refer to them in your designs when neccessary. This allows you to do useful things like change your entire site layout, theme and colour scheme by altering this one file. If you still use font tags, go and read a CSS tutorial - it's not difficult to pick up.

What's MODx?

MODx is a Content Management System/Framework depending on your needs.

It's a CMS in that out of the box you can change the look, add pages, pictures and files, set up a search form and a Google-compatible sitemap within just a few hours of installation.

It's a CMF in that if you want to build applications from the source code, you can easily strip it down and use the incredibly powerful API as a base for your custom project.

Just what the heck does Acronymity mean?

I have absolutely no idea. It's a completely made-up word which is sort of a cross between "acronym" and "anonymity". This seems fitting as I've dealt with a few acronyms above and, although you may find bits of my code useful, you're by no means required to link back to this site or put any visible credits on your own site. In that way I guess I'm anonymously contributing.

Something like that anyway. I couldn't really think of a good reason for the "anonymous" part of this explanation and the above nonsense sounded vaguely cool - at least in my head!

I'm confused - who are you?

I'm Pete. That's all you need to know.
